Michael grew up in Tel Aviv and trained in Israel, Paris and New York. He moved to Sydney in 2005, working as Sous Chef at iconic institution The Bathers’ Pavilion before opening Kepos Street Kitchen in 2012 and Kepos & Co. in 2015. The food that Michael draws on the best of his childhood meals mixed with his classical training. Dishes have a strong Mediterranean influence with a Middle Eastern twist. These two restaurants have quickly become Sydney icons. Kepos & Co, is a few minutes’ walk from its sister restaurant in Waterloo.
Michael’s first cookbook with his partner Kristy Frawley, Falafel for Breakfast is a collection of modern Middle Eastern recipes for the shared table. Michael and Kristy have often been asked for the recipes they cook at home. The new cookbook, Hummus & Co. is a collection of recipes that Michael and Kristy like to cook in their own home featuring recipes for every kind of gathering; quick and delicious midweek dinners, a family barbecue with plentiful salads that burst with flavour, or a Sunday slow roast of cumin-spiced lamb shoulder, with Persian cranberry rice pilaf and tangy vegetables. During this special event, Michael will be demonstrating a selection of these recipes from both cookbooks.
