Renovation Project

Dear Members and Friends,
We are pleased to confirm that the renovation of the interior of our shul is to begin shortly. The new design is shown on the attached two drawings.

We again express our gratitude to our members Lisa Milech and Cesare Di Veroli for their invaluable contributions to developing the plans for this project. In addition, we thank Harold Marshbaum for organising an experienced project manager to oversee and implement the renovation and his negotiation of a fixed price contract to ensure the price for it is capped.

As explained in the recent report from our Treasure, our financial position is in good order. The required processes to prudently fund our operating expenses going forward are in place.

However, the upcoming interior renovation requires a one-time (fixed price) capital raise of $100,000. Since its founding over 7 decades ago members’ financial support and support from members and friends has been a cornerstone of our shul. That support has enabled us to build an enduring, warm, and welcoming community over an extended period. Given our longevity, and the welcome we extend to all who interact with us, we are fortunate to enjoy a
positive reputation amongst the larger Jewish community of Sydney and beyond.

Now, to continue and enhance that legacy, we are appealing to all members and to a select group of friends to contribute to our current renovation project. In that context, please consider the following:

  1. It has been approximately 65 years since the original bimah, Aron Kodesh and the back panels alongside the Aron Kodesh were installed;
  2. It has been 25 years since the interior of the shul was painted and the last major improvement to its infrastructure was made with the installation of an efficient
    overhead air conditioning system and related elements;
  3. ad hoc repairs have been made to these items and others over the years; but their appearance and general condition are clearly in need of renewal;
  4. as the configuration of the shul has recently been updated to ensure women now sit equidistant to men from the Bima a new mechitza is necessary.
    In summary, this is an opportunity for each of us to contribute to and own this once in a generation renewal of our shul. We will be coupling this renovation with an initiative to recruit new members and other initiatives once our new Rabbi is appointed. That is to occur soon.
    We are not suggesting any minimum. But please be generous. Consistent with our past practice, no individual amounts donated will be made public and no naming plaques will be attached to the refurbished parts of the shul. We are one united community, all equally valued and embraced.
    Please go to the donation confirmation form below and make your donation as requested no later than 15 March 2025. All donations will be tax deductible.Thanking you for your generosity in anticipation.
    Yours faithfully
    The Board of Management
